Dawson Springs Man Indicted By Caldwell Grand Jury

The Caldwell County Grand Jury returned indictments Thursday on various charges, including wanton endangerment of a police officer, DUI, drug possession, and fleeing and evading.

The grand jury returned an indictment on 42-year-old Shawn L. Blanton, of Dawson Springs, on charges of DUI aggravating circumstances, first degree wanton endangerment of a police officer, first degree wanton endangerment, first degree possession of methamphetamine, first degree fleeing or evading, drug paraphernalia buying or possessing, and various other lesser charges.

The charges stem from an incident on August 17, 2019, when the Kentucky State Police Post 1 reported that a trooper observed Blanton allegedly disregard a stop sign at the intersection of Highways 903 and 93 South in Lamasco. When the trooper attempted to initiate a traffic stop, Blanton sped along Highway 903 into Caldwell County, accelerating to speeds of up to 100MPH. KSP states that he then traveled into Princeton, running three stops signs before striking another vehicle. Blanton then reportedly came to a stop in a residential area and fled the scene on foot. Following a short foot pursuit, he was apprehended and arrested. A search of his vehicle revealed suspected methamphetamine and marijuana.
