The Tennessee Department of Transportation is reporting a portion of Interstate 24 is closed due to a major landslide.
Officials indicate the eastbound lanes are blocked at the 42-mile marker just north of Nashville. Traffic is being detoured at the Exit 40/Old Hickory Boulevard.
To avoid delays, motorists traveling I-24 from Western Kentucky to Nashville should take an alternate route via US 41-Alternate, or US 431 to avoid major backups in the area.
Officials add this major landslide may take several days or weeks to clear from the roadway, so the detour for traffic is likely to remain in place for an extended period of time.
