Hopkinsville Solid Waste Authority has announced they will begin their annual leaf collection program next week.
According to a release, crews will begin picking up leaves on Thursday, November 1 and will continue through Thursday, January 31, 2019. Workers use large vacuum trucks that cross each section of the city, making two complete passes through each neighborhood and multiple passes on major thoroughfares.
To find out where crews will be visiting next, go to hoptown.org/leaves or follow the City of Hopkinsville on Facebook and Twitter.
Tips to help speed up the leave collection process:
* Be ready on collection day. Crews will make a complete pass through the city before beginning their second pass, so it may be several weeks before they are in your area again.
* To avoid obstructing proper drainage and causing equipment damage, place leaves curbside and in your yard:
-not in the drainage ditches or on drainage grates
-not on sidewalks or edges of driveways and streets
-not over water meter covers or sewer caps
-not over any other obstructions or items that may be sucked into the vacuum truck
* If you notice a clogged drainage grate call (270) 890-0600 to request a cleaning.
* Do not wet leaves. Frozen leaves may damage vacuum equipment.
* Do not mix leaves with limbs, brush, sticks, trash, rocks, bricks, etc. Leaves containing these materials may be bypassed in order to prevent equipment damage and collection delays.
* Do not block leaf piles with vehicles.
