Police say a vehicle stopped for having an expired registration tag landed two Hopkinsville residents in jail for possession of a controlled substance.

The traffic stop occurred at the intersection of South Campbell and East 9th streets Tuesday night at 11:00 on a vehicle driven by 32-year old Adam Schneider. Hopkinsville Police say a K-9 unit was called to the scene due to Schneider’s history and because the backseat passenger, 29-year old Shayna Mcleod appeared under the influence. After the K-9 hit on the vehicle, officers reportedly found a plastic baggie containing a crystal substance that was packaged like narcotics hidden on the passenger side floorboard in front of Mcleod. Police say Schneider claimed it was vitamins for his dog that he purchased at a Hopkinsville retailer. Officers indicate the substance did not test positive for methamphetamine.
