Burnice Eugene Sowell, 94, of Cerulean

Burnice Eugene Sowell, age 94, of Cerulean, Kentucky, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, May 24, 2026.

Born on October 26, 1931, in Trigg County, he was the son of the late Alpha and Elise (Johnson) Sowell.

Eugene proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1954 to 1956. After his service, he returned to Trigg County where he married Wanda Robertson Sowell on December 29, 1961. They shared nearly 63 years of marriage until her death in 2024.

Eugene dedicated his life to farming the family land in Cerulean. He was a man of many hats, also owning and operating a grocery store and a feed mill, and was known for hauling lime across the county. He was a member of Wallonia Christian Church for many years.

In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by his son Michael Eugene Sowell, his daughter-in-law Denise Sowell, his brother A.C. Sowell, and his sisters Barbara Perry, Norma Wadlington, and Lois Stewart.

He is survived by his devoted son, Jason Sowell, of Cerulean, his grandchildren Jesse Sowell, Heather Haney (John), and Lara Walker, six great-grandchildren, his brother Wilton Sowell of Nortonville, KY, and sisters Wilmuth Hendricks, Nadine Mize, Nancy Simpson (Glenn), all of Cerulean, and Martha Nell Menser (Buddy) of Crofton, KY.

Funeral services will be at Goodwin Funeral Home, 138 Main Street in Cadiz, at 1:00 PM, Friday, May 29, 2026. Burial with full military honors will follow in Cerulean Cemetery.

Visitation will precede the service at the funeral home from 11:00 AM until the funeral hour of 1:00 PM.
