Primary Polls Open Until 6pm Today

Voters across Trigg and Christian counties are heading to the polls for today’s Primary Election, with polls open until 6 p.m. across several countywide voting centers.

Kentucky is again using the countywide voting model, allowing residents to cast ballots at any polling location in the county rather than being restricted to their home precinct.

According to Trigg County Clerk Carmen Finley, there are two voting locations in Cadiz: the Way, behind the school, and the Emergency Operations Center downtown. Voters can also cast a vote at the Cerulean Baptist Church, the East Golden Pond Fire Department, the South Road Fire Department, the Lexie Bush Convention Center at the Complex, and the Trigg-Lyon Fire Department.

There are 13 voting locations in Christian County.

Finley reminds you to bring a valid photo ID, allow enough time to vote, confirm polling locations before arriving, and review candidates in advance.

Kentucky remains a closed primary state, meaning Republicans can vote only in Republican races and Democrats only in Democratic races. Independent voters are not eligible to vote in partisan primary contests.

Turnout in Kentucky primaries has historically been much lower than in general elections, although local races often increase participation in counties with competitive contests.

According to the Kentucky Secretary of State’s Office, statewide turnout in the 2022 primary election was approximately 19 percent, down from nearly 24 percent in 2018.

Trigg County saw 2,518 people vote in the 2022 May primary for a turnout of 19.9%. In 2018, 3,156 people voted for a 26 percent turnout.

Christian County saw 6,174 people vote in the 2022 primary for 11 percent. In 2018, over 9,400 people voted for an 18 percent turnout.

Our election coverage begins tonight at 6:00 on WKDZ 106.5 FM and WHVO 96.5 FM.
