A busy summer season is underway for the Pennyroyal Arts Council as Executive Director Margaret Prim says the organization is preparing for performances, camps, movies, and celebrations leading into the council’s upcoming 50th anniversary.
Prim said they recently wrapped up another successful live performance season at the Alhambra Theatre and will celebrate its 50th anniversary next year, with Prim noting the organization was officially incorporated in 1977.
Prim said the organization’s longtime partnership with Missoula Children’s Theatre is expanding with new summer camp opportunities for children.

Prim said the programs are often a first introduction to theater for many children and help young performers develop confidence, teamwork, and friendships that last well beyond the stage.
The Arts Council is also preparing a Summer Mural Camp scheduled for June 22 through June 26 for students in grades 5 through 12. The camp will be led by MacKenzie Russell, a former intern with the Arts Council.

She added the Arts Council is working to preserve records and artwork connected to those earlier projects as part of its 50th anniversary preparations.
In addition to camps, the Alhambra Theatre will once again host free summer movie programming beginning in mid-June. Prim said movies for younger children will be shown in the mornings, while afternoon screenings will target older audiences. Several first-run and seasonal films are also planned throughout the year.
The Arts Council is also planning another Shakespeare in the Park production at the Christian County Public Library amphitheater and preparing for upcoming performances by the Hopkinsville Orchestra and Chorus. Their next concert is scheduled for June 20, with another performance already planned for November.
