A man was severely injured in a crash on Interstate 24 in Christian County on Thursday afternoon.
Christian County Sheriff’s deputies say a car driven by Gary Belew was stopped for an unknown reason in the fast lane by a turnabout when a truck driven by Edward Layne collided with the back of the car, pushing it off the roadway.
Hopkinsville Fire Department Spokesman Captain Payton Rogers says Belew, who is in his 70’s, was taken to a waiting helicopter at Jennie Stuart Health, which flew him to TriStar Skyline Medical Center in Nashville with severe injuries.
Layne, who is in his 30’s, was taken to a local hospital by Fort Campbell EMS for injuries from the seat belt.
The crash happened at the 75-mile marker westbound, and the road was temporarily closed in the area.
