The Museums of Historic Hopkinsville-Christian County is showcasing more than a century of local craftsmanship with a special quilt exhibit now on display through the end of this month.
Museum Director Alissa Keller says the exhibit features about 18 quilts from the museum’s permanent collection, with pieces dating from the 1850s through the 1980s. The display highlights the evolution of quilting styles, techniques, and design trends across generations.
Keller says the exhibit marks the return of a tradition that had not been featured since before the museum’s renovation, making it the first large-scale quilt show in nearly a decade. She added that the exhibit is also part of a broader celebration, as the museum prepares to mark its 50th anniversary in July.
In addition to the exhibit, the museum will host a special “Quilt Show and Tell” event on Saturday, May 16, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Keller is inviting community members to bring their own quilts and share the stories behind them.

Another unique program is planned for June 2, when staff will demonstrate proper storage and preservation of quilts, offering insight into museum conservation practices and how residents can care for their own heirloom pieces.
