Trigg County Public Schools is preparing to launch a new virtual option for students, with Superintendent Rex Booth announcing plans for a pilot Virtual Learning Academy beginning in the 2026-27 school year.
The program, called the Harbor Academy Virtual Learning School, will be the first time the district has offered a fully virtual option for families seeking a more flexible alternative to the traditional classroom setting. Booth said the initiative is designed to keep students connected to the local district while providing a different path to complete their education.

click to download audioVirtual learning expanded rapidly across Kentucky and the nation during the COVID-19 pandemic, when schools shifted to remote instruction out of necessity. In the years since, many districts have evaluated how to incorporate online learning into long-term offerings. Some systems have developed full-time virtual academies, while others have scaled back after returning to in-person instruction.
In Kentucky, state-supported options like the Kentucky Virtual Academy and other district-led programs have provided models for blended and remote learning, though availability and structure vary by district.
Booth said the Harbor Academy pilot represents another step in adapting to changing educational needs in Trigg County, with the goal of better serving students and families across the community.
