Drivers traveling on Interstate 24 in Lyon County should be aware that the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet plans to begin a traffic shift on Friday, weather permitting, as part of the ongoing work zone near Exit 45.

According to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, traffic will be reduced to one lane each way between mile points 45.1 and 50. Starting late Friday, vehicles will shift to the eastbound lanes in a head-to-head setup using a new crossover.

A temporary barrier wall has been installed along the center of the eastbound lanes to accommodate two-way traffic. Officials say this change will allow crews to close the westbound lanes for full-depth paving.

Drivers are urged to stay alert for the new traffic pattern, follow signs, and use extra caution in the work zone. The speed limit remains reduced to 55 mph.

This work is part of a 10-mile asphalt rehab project stretching from mile point 45.1 in Lyon County to mile point 55.4 near Exit 56 in Caldwell County. Lane restrictions and crossover setups are also planned for the next five-mile segment, from mile points 50 to 55.4, later this year.

The project is scheduled for completion by November 15, 2027.
