An Oak Grove man is facing drug trafficking charges after a traffic stop Tuesday afternoon on Interstate 69 in Hopkins County.
Madisonville Police say an officer was monitoring northbound traffic near the railroad bridge at the 113-mile marker around 2:30 p.m. when a black Nissan was spotted following another vehicle too closely. Authorities say that after observing the vehicle cross the fog line and abruptly exit the highway, the officer initiated a traffic stop.
According to the arrest report, the officer detected a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. During a search, officers reportedly found marijuana in the center console, several hydrocodone pills, and a large quantity of a white substance.
Police say the driver, 32-year-old Trequan Lewis, admitted the substances belonged to him. Authorities say a field test confirmed the white powder was cocaine.
Lewis was taken into custody and charged with trafficking cocaine, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of marijuana.
He was lodged in the Hopkins County Jail. Authorities say a passenger in the vehicle was questioned and released without charges.
