Christian County Fiscal Court opened Tuesday’s meeting celebrating “Month of the Military Child,” while proclaiming Wednesday, April 15, a “Purple Up Day” across the community.
Judge-Executive Jerry Gilliam said it was important the community embrace all things Fort Campbell and all things military, and that he has garnered newfound perspective of military families over the years.
In the proclamation, Oak Grove Mayor Jackie Oliver noted Christian County, and the Commonwealth in general, have high concentration of those who serve — and those who stay by their side.
Hopkinsville Mayor J.R. Knight said military families encounter unique school challenges, especially through changes in each deployment and reassignment, usually based on enrollment eligibility, replacement and graduation.
Gilliam said 92 K-12 schools have now joined the Purple Star Schools Program, with their graduates prepared as well-rounded citizens ready for college and career.
