Governor Andy Beshear has signed four new bills aimed at strengthening public education, student safety and consumer protections across Kentucky.

The measures include Senate Bill 2, which requires school districts to give classroom teachers pay raises equal to or greater than those provided to administrators.

Senate Bill 5 encourages schools to purchase locally grown food, supporting Kentucky farmers while improving student nutrition.

Under Senate Bill 46, school districts can now use smaller passenger vehicles designed for up to 10 people for student transportation, with local policies required to ensure safety.

Meanwhile, House Bill 657 mandates state and national background checks for a range of licensed professionals, including therapists, social workers and counselors, in an effort to better protect consumers.

Governor Beshear says the legislation reinforces his administration’s focus on improving education and ensuring the safety and well-being of Kentuckians.

The governor also noted several earlier bill signings this year, including measures to reduce utility costs, regulate alcohol beverage control and establish a rebate program for residential storm safe rooms.
