Deacon Joe Louis Quarles, 85, passed away on Thursday, March 19, 2026, at the Medical Center Health Hospital, Bowling Green, Kentucky. Born in Todd County, Kentucky, on May 2, 1940, he was the son of the late Allen James and Juanita Lowe Quarles.
Early in life, he accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior and joined the Bethel Berry Baptist Church. He later joined the McCarroll Hill Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon and Sunday School Teacher.
Deacon Joe was a member of Union 350 and president of the Union for 1 ½ years; he received a 30-year award as a member of the safety Committee at Ebonite; and a service award for 40+ years for his Christian service at the Bethel Berry Baptist Church. During his spare time, he enjoyed reading his Bible, building, gardening, and farming.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Quarles, two sons, Joe L. Quarles, Jr., and George A. Quarles, and two grandchildren.
Deacon Joe Quarles is survived by his wife, Margie Owens Quarles; children, Frances J. (Lonzo) Poindexter, Charlotte (Andrew) Williams, Mary C. Browder, and Anthony W. (Kim) Quarles, Sr.; siblings Rev. Richard (Alma) Quarles and James Collins; step- children, Karen (William) Gee; Hope Shannon; 12 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, 4 step grandchildren, 7 step grandchildren, one aunt Gloria Jean Pattem a host of nieces, nephews, of other relatives and friends.
Gamble Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Funeral services will be on Monday, March 30, 2026, at 1:00 at the Mt. Olive Baptist Church.
Burial will follow at the McCarroll Hill Baptist Church.
Visitation will begin on Monday at 12:00.
