A Hopkinsville man was charged with DUI third offense and fleeing or evading police after a traffic stop on Maplewood Street in Hopkinsville on Tuesday night.

Hopkinsville Police say they attempted to stop a vehicle driven by 60-year-old Lawrence Pettus for no headlights, and he failed to stop right away.

He reportedly told law enforcement he wanted to make it to his boss’s house before pulling over.

Police say he showed signs of being under the influence of alcohol, and after a field sobriety test, he gave consent to a preliminary breath test, which showed .140.

He was arrested and charged with second-degree fleeing or evading police, driving on a DUI suspended license second offense, failure to illuminate head lamps, no registration plates, and DUI third offense.
