Behind a theme of “Unite For Good,” four Trigg County High schoolers put their speaking skills to the test Tuesday afternoon — sharing 5-to-8-minute orations with the Cadiz Rotary Club, for a chance to move on in the annual speech contest.

Kacey Kearney, a junior who enjoys quilting, came away as the victor — earning a $300 prize and an invitation to move on into regional competition.

She focused on mental health struggles, and how rural communities like Cadiz can come together to erase stigma.

Braelyn Warren, a freshman who loves Lady Wildcats volleyball, finished second — earning a $200 prize.

She noted that rural poverty can be erased when multiple forces “Unite For Good.”

A senior who loves Lady Wildcats basketball, hanging with friends and family and listening to music, Kyra Adams finished third and earned $100, maintaining that Camp Cadiz, Interact and the community itself have helped her realize the meaning of “Unite For Good.”

Small acts of kindness, she said, create light that comes together.

Dremah Harral, a senior who loves scrapbooking, hanging out with friends and also listening to music, earned $50 as a participant.

She noted that “Unite For Good” first sounded like a slogan that was “inspiring, but distant” — words for “big leaders” and “adults with big platforms.”

She didn’t readily see herself in the theme.

Now, she thinks differently.
