A traffic stop on South Road in Trigg County for speeding led to drug charges for a Cadiz man on Sunday night.

Trigg County Sheriff’s deputies say they stopped a vehicle driven by 59-year-old John Staples for going 15 mph over the speed limit and for his registration, which had expired in February of 2025.

He was reportedly found to have no insurance, an expired driver’s license, and suspected meth in his pocket and in the vehicle, along with drug paraphernalia.

Staples was arrested and charged with speeding, no registration plates, operating on an expired license, no insurance, possession of meth, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
