Fire management staff at Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area are conducting a 1,200-acre prescribed burn in the Pryor Creek area along Woodlands Trace today (Wednesday).
Officials said the burn began at approximately 10 a.m. and is part of ongoing land management efforts to reduce accumulated leaf litter and promote healthier wildlife habitat across the area.
The Pryor Creek area is located near the state line, and smoke from the burn is expected to move northeast toward Trigg County. Residents in that area may notice reduced visibility or smoke throughout the day.
Drivers traveling along Woodlands Trace are urged to use caution, as fire personnel and equipment will be operating in the area.
The operation follows another large-scale prescribed burn conducted by LBL fire staff on Saturday, March 14, when crews completed a 4,991-acre burn west of the Brandon Spring area using aerial ignition methods.
Officials say prescribed burns are a routine part of forest management, helping to maintain ecosystem health while reducing the risk of more severe wildfires.
