The City of Hopkinsville is accepting applications from Ward 8 residents interested in filling its vacancy on the city council.
Seth Meek, who was elected last year, recently resigned. His term is scheduled to end on December 31.
An application can be found on the city's website. Applicants should also submit a resume outlining their community involvement and a letter indicating why they want to serve as a city council member. They must also complete a “Financial Interests Statement” in accordance with the Code of Ethics.
All documents must be received by the City Clerk’s Office no later than 4:30 p.m., on Friday, March 27, 2026.
Interviews with the applicants will be conducted during an upcoming city council meeting, according to a city resolution passed in 2008. After the interviews, a roll call vote will be taken of the current council and the applicant with the most votes will be sworn in and take their seat at the meeting. The mayor will cast any tie-breaking votes.
If no appointment is made within 30 days of the opening, Governor Andy Beshear will appoint the new council member.
Ward 8 is comprised of Pembroke Road east of I-169, Fort Campbell Boulevard south to I-24, and the area that includes the James Bruce Convention Center and the new Christian County High School.
