Expect All Four Seasons of Weather in the Coming Week

Western Kentucky could experience all four seasons of weather in the next 3-5 days.

National Weather Service forecasters say gusty winds will be the first weather concern heading into the weekend. Meteorologist Dan Spaeth says wind gusts between 30 and 35 miles per hour are possible on Saturday, with even stronger gusts expected to develop from Sunday into Monday. Some gusts during that period could exceed 45 miles per hour.

A line of storms is expected to move through the region, bringing the threat of widespread damaging winds and the possibility of a few brief, spin-up tornadoes. As a result, Spaeth says the area will face an increased risk of severe weather Sunday evening.

While atmospheric instability is not expected to be particularly strong, forecasters note that the storm system contains significant wind energy that could still support severe weather as it moves through the region.

Following the storms, a sharp change in temperatures is expected. Spaeth says much colder air is forecast to arrive late Sunday night and remain in place through at least Wednesday. The colder conditions could produce wind chill values in the single digits Monday night into Tuesday morning.

There is also a chance for light snow late Sunday night into Monday morning as the colder air moves into the area.
