A woman died not long after arriving at the jail on West 7th Street in Hopkinsville on Saturday morning.
Hopkinsville Fire Department Spokesman Captain Payton Rogers says they were called for a woman who was possibly overdosing and performed life-saving measures, but were not able to bring her back.
The Christian County Coroner’s Office says they pronounced 31-year-old Zoe Johnson of Brentwood, Tennessee, dead at the scene, and her body will be sent for an autopsy.
A citation from the Christian County Sheriff’s Office says Johnson was a passenger in a vehicle driven by Marquentus Gold, who was stopped for speeding on Winner’s Way in Oak Grove.
Deputies say during the stop, they could smell the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle, leading to a search and the discovery of marijuana along with pills believed to be oxycodone and acetaminophen.
Johnson was arrested and charged with possession of opiates.
