The Cadiz-Trigg County Tourist Commission took time to shore up some of its liquid assets Thursday afternoon, unanimously approving the transfer of a $50,000 certificate of deposit into a municipal money market account.

Executive Director Beth Sumner noted the CD, held at First Financial Bank, earned a respectable $1,700 in six months of interest, but a MMM allows up to six non-penalized withdrawals a month.

With the approval, Sumner said she would also be closing a savings account that exists at FNB Bank, and also move it into the MMM, so that everything sits “at a higher interest rate.”

In other tourism news:

+ Sumner said some advertising opportunities now, and in the future, do include the “Illinois Country Living” magazine, “Southern Lady” magazine, a wedding feature in “Posh” magazine, while the 2026 Kentucky Official Visitor’s Guide mention’s Cadiz no less than “eight times.”

Sumner, as well as Lake Barkley State Resort Park Director Ashley Joiner, said the state’s Official Visitor Guide remains up for grabs for those interested.

+ Sumner said Cadiz-Trigg County Tourism does have several sponsorship commitments coming up, including the Red Brick Inn’s “Red Brick Run” on April 11 to benefit Friends of Land Between the Lakes, a dinner for the Trigg County Longspurs this weekend, and a Christian County Military Affairs Committee Eagle Ambassador Breakfast on February 25.

Commissioners unanimously approved a $5,000 sponsorship support, once again, for professional fisherman and Trigg Countian Ramie Colson. Sumner said this partnership has been ongoing for nearly a decade, and Colson has again agreed to include “GoCadiz.com” for a boat wrap and apparel, while social media posts are also part of the contract.

Furthermore, Sumner said Colson has offered guided fishing tours for those who inquire, and that this summer could be a strong opportunity for new stock photography of local waters and anglers in action.
