While the area has received a break from the weekend snow and ice, below-freezing temperatures are expected to remain for at least another week.
Meteorologist Andy Lesage says temperatures aren’t expected to reach 30 degrees the rest of this week.
Wind chills are expected to be below zero Monday night into Tuesday and will drop below zero again early Friday and Saturday. Lesage also says some light snow could return midweek, but nothing substantial is expected.
He also says more snow could be coming in the first week of February.
Overnight lows this week will remain in the single digits, slowing the thaw of streets and roads with an Extreme Cold Warning in effect until 10:00 Tuesday morning.
The National Weather Service reported eight inches of snow in Paducah over the weekend, with Southern Illinois and areas along the Ohio River reaching double-digit snowfall.
