Jewell Dunn Sumner, 98, of Cadiz, Kentucky, passed away on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, at her home in Cadiz.
Born on June 2, 1927, in Trigg County, she was the daughter of Richard Aubrey “R.A” Dunn and Myrtle Choate Dunn.
Jewell graduated from Trigg County High School in 1944. On May 14, 1949, she married W.J. Simmons, and their union lasted for an incredible 70 years until his passing on December 18, 2019. Jewell was a devoted homemaker and a nurturing mother to their daughter, Karen.
Jewell was a longtime member of Cadiz Baptist Church. She loved to visit with friends and was known for her exceptional conversational skills and wonderful sense of humor, a gift she developed as a young girl growing up in her father’s small country store, the R.A. Dunn Store. She had a passion for shopping and was always impeccably dressed. She was also an avid reader and loved traveling, especially taking family trips to Hilton Head Island, where she vacationed with W.J. and Karen for over 40 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, R.A. and Myrtle Dunn, her beloved husband, W.J. Simmons, and her dear sisters and brothers-in-law: Dorothy and Bill Darnall, Ethelene and Douglas Wallis, and Eunice and Cleland Carr.
She is survived by her devoted daughter, Karen Simmons, of Cadiz; nieces Dana Moore (Chris), Irma Idell (Harold), and Marilyn Elledge (Tom); and great-nephew Andrew Idell.
Funeral services will be at Goodwin Funeral Home, 138 Main Street in Cadiz, at 2:00 PM, Friday, January 23, 2026, with Mike Wright as eulogist and Bro. Justin Carter as assisting minister. Visitation will precede the service from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM. Burial will follow in Green Hill Memorial Gardens in Hopkinsville, Kentucky.
