Always known as “Mrs. Capps,” she taught for forty years (grades K-8) as her family moved around the country on large construction projects. She taught for most of her years in southern Indiana and western Kentucky. She also taught in North Carolina, South Carolina, Utah, and Texas, working extensively with dyslexic children. After she retired and moved back to Crofton, KY, she tutored children from the community.

With a thirst for travel, she went on six cruises, sailing across the Mediterranean to Turkey, around the Baltic Sea to Russia, visiting all Scandinavian countries except Norway, and across the North Sea to Iceland and Greenland. A few years before her husband passed, they drove in an RV 7,000 miles around the perimeter of our beautiful country, visiting nine National Parks and meeting many interesting people.

Returning to Crofton in 1988, she devoted herself to caring for her family and to serving in her church, and remained faithful until the very end. With great endurance, she never let anything hold her back. She was determined, adventurous, smart, kind, and humble. She cooked many meals for her family around her dining room table and for those in need at her church. She was always there to lend a helping hand and step up to humbly serve any need that arose. The Lord was the center point of her life, and we feel assured her faith has now become sight. Although she is greatly missed, we delight in the assurance that she was welcomed into eternity with a resounding “Welcome home, good and faithful servant.”
