King, Mayor Of Cadiz, Officially Files For 2026 Re-election

Mayor for the City of Cadiz since 2014, Todd King officially filed for re-election Tuesday afternoon, December 30, putting to rest any questions there may have been about his intentions for 2026 and beyond.

He said there are some “loose ends” he wishes to take care of, which in the immediacy include tending to several grant applications for road repairs, as well as the continued planning stages of a new sewer plant.

If re-elected, King said his campaign promises include a continued focus on infrastructure updates, filling the empty speculation building in the I-24 Business Park, and generally attracting more jobs and businesses to the city limits — through respectful growth.

Another immediate item on his to-do list, and in perpetuity, is improved code enforcement and city limits beautification.

King is aware that local finances, and budgeting, have been key, critical talking points for the city in the past few years — but particularly since the global pandemic.

Tough decisions, he said, have been made in the last year, and regardless of who is elected, tough decisions remain — starting with various increases in taxes and fees.

King has served as mayor since Lyn Bailey’s retirement, but for the first time in eight years, he will face non-partisan opposition in November with Mitzi Thomas-Lawson already on the ballot.

Others could be interested and enter before the deadline, but King said he was going to campaign regardless of who jumped in the fray, and he wished Thomas-Lawson “nothing but the best,” on what he said will be a “clean race.”

Regardless of the outcome, King said he didn’t know if this would be his last campaign or not, as health, business and family all play factors in these choices.

Whatever may be, he said he just wants to “see progress.”
