Gas prices in west central Kentucky ticked up eight cents this week to an average of $2.57 per gallon, according to AAA East Central’s latest Gas Price Report.
Average gas prices across the region include:
Bowling Green: $2.63
Elizabethtown: $2.52
Louisville: $2.68
Owensboro: $2.43
Paducah: $2.61
The region’s current average of $2.57 compares to $2.49 a week ago and $2.61 a year ago. The record high for the area remains $4.74, set on June 13, 2022.
However, nationally, the average price for regular gasoline has dropped below $3 a gallon for the first time in four years. AAA reports the national average now stands at $2.95, down five cents from last week and seven cents over the past month. And the last time prices were this low was in May 2021.
AAA says lower crude oil prices—hovering around $60 per barrel—combined with reduced demand and cheaper winter-blend gasoline are contributing to the steady decline. The Energy Information Administration reports gasoline demand fell last week from 8.72 million barrels per day to 8.32 million, while domestic supply climbed to 214.4 million barrels.
Crude oil inventories also rose slightly, with U.S. stockpiles now about 3% below the five-year seasonal average.
Electric vehicle charging costs remained unchanged this week, with the national average staying at 38 cents per kilowatt hour.
