The Kentucky Governor’s Cup academic competition has released its full schedule for the 2026 season, outlining district, regional and state contest dates for students across the Commonwealth.
In the News Edge listening area, district-level events will open the season in mid-January. A coaches’ planning meeting is set for Thursday, January 15, at each district site, followed by the Composition and Future Problem Solving contests on Tuesday, January 20.
Four west Kentucky districts will compete at the following schools:
+ District 1: Fulton County High School
+ District 2: Marshall County High School
+ District 3: Mayfield High School
+ District 4: Caldwell County High School
The main academic events — Arts and Humanities, Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies and Quick Recall — will be held on Saturday, January 24, followed by the district awards ceremonies. All districts will again host these competitions at the same school locations.
Regional competition will be centralized at Murray High School in Calloway County. A regional coaches’ meeting will take place Thursday, February 12, with Composition and Future Problem Solving scheduled for Monday, February 16. The full slate of written assessments and Quick Recall will follow on Saturday, February 21, along with the regional awards ceremony.
The season will culminate at the Governor’s Cup State Finals, held March 20–23 at The Galt House in Louisville, where top-performing students from across Kentucky will compete for individual and team championships.
The Governor’s Cup is one of the state’s longest-running academic competitions, testing students across a broad range of subjects and rewarding excellence in both written assessment and team-based problem solving.
