Thanksgiving, Christmas Has Attention Of Trigg County Sheriff’s Office

The Trigg County Sheriff’s Department, and other local law enforcement agencies, are preparing for what could be busy travel during the Thanksgiving season.

Wintry precipitation isn’t expected until the weekend, but Thursday and Friday should be pleasant enough to bring families and friends together for a warm meal, and administrative Deputy Zach White said holiday enforcement will be “proactive” along six miles of I-24, as well as the full stretch of US 68/80 from Marshall County to Christian County.

Sheriff Aaron Acree noted that speed limits along the bypass can be tricky, going from 45 to 55 to 65 in certain spots, but it’s all in the name of safety, and motorists should pay attention.

Deputy Chris Beavers, who also finds himself ensconced in cases of drug trafficking, said Thanksgiving and Christmas can be busy times for his office.

At present, he said a specific type of patrol is helping dismiss high-collision zones, as well as criminal activity.

Those who need emergency assistance Thursday, or anytime, should not hesitate to call 911.

Meanwhile, the Trigg County Sheriff’s Office does reopen to the public Friday, and Acree has announced their annual “Shop With A Sheriff” detail will be December 18 — a week before Christmas.

They are still looking for more sponsors, for meals and for the shopping, and Acree confirmed they already have enough for five students and their families.

However, they are looking to reach another seven, or more, students with the program — which allows children the opportunity of a hot meal before buying some presents.

In the past, Acree said they have tried to allot $200 to $300 per child, because the spending often gets spread out to other family members. The department, he added, does not solicit for this endeavor, and instead simply asks for anonymous or generous major donors of the cause.

The process, he noted, is fairly discreet. School administrators send over a list of those in need that, then, must be vetted and approved before instructions are delivered by assistant Faye Godair.

More details, Acree assured, are coming.
