Princeton’s former deputy clerk appeared before a Caldwell County District Court judge this week, facing allegations of an inappropriate proposition involving a city business license.

29-year-old Alan Getz, who also served as the City’s Code Enforcement Officer, is charged with second-degree official misconduct, a Class B misdemeanor, and tampering with public records, a Class D felony.

According to court records, Princeton Police Detective James Fox began an investigation on September 10th after allegations surfaced that Getz had made “a proposition to a woman to act in a manner, which would be perceived as an intimate relationship, he would waive a city business license,” with the woman “agreeing to the transaction.”

Fox reported that during the investigation, it was learned that on September 3rd, a woman responded to a city Facebook post to criticize a city service. In response, he said Getz requested the woman to pay her city business license, with the woman then making a public post exposing the alleged proposition and arrangement, and calling Getz out by name. Fox said Getz then deleted the post in an effort to conceal the arrangement.

The detective said that a non-custodial interview was conducted with Getz on October 29, and he denied the allegations of entering into an arrangement. Fox added that when questioned about deleting the post, he would only say “it is possible.”

Court records show that Getz was arraigned on Monday, where he entered a plea of not guilty, and plans to hire his own attorney.

Mayor Brock Thomas told WPKY’s News Edge that Getz was terminated from his position with the City of Princeton on Monday afternoon, November 10th, following his court appearance.

Getz is scheduled to be back in Caldwell District Court on December 22nd for a preliminary hearing.
