Incumbents make up five of the seven filings for Christian County Fiscal Court magistrate, according to information from the county clerk’s office and the Kentucky Secretary of State.
Magaline Ferguson of District 1, George Barnett of District 3, J.E. Pryor of District 4, Phillip Peterson of District 6, and John Bruce of District 8 have each filed to run for another term on the fiscal court.
Democrat Jim Smith has filed to run for the District 5 seat held by Rich Leibe, and Todd Morris has filed to run for the District 7 seat held by Russ Guffey, who has announced a bid for Hopkinsville Mayor.
Current Mayor J.R. Knight has also filed to run for a second term.
Four incumbents have also filed for re-election to the Hopkinsville City Council. They are Ward Two’s Josh Turner, Ward Three’s Donald Marsh, Travis Martin of Ward Six, and Clayton Sumner in Ward 7.
County offices that have seen incumbents file for another term include Sheriff Tyler Dearmond, Judge-Executive Jerry Gilliam, County Attorney Lincoln Foster, Jailer Adam Smith, County Clerk Melinda Humphries, and Coroner Scott Daniel.
Erik Pacheco filed to run for sheriff in the Republican primary on Thursday.
Several people have announced their intent to run for office, but have not filed as of Wednesday afternoon.
The deadline to file to run in the May Primary Election is January 9.
