The final quarter of 2025 should be a particularly busy one for the Cadiz-Trigg County Planning Commission.

During Tuesday night’s meeting, Chairman Tom Lawson and Secretary Jim Mullen confirmed that the City of Cadiz and its council members will read, discuss and vote on the suggested annexation of the Cadiz RV Park during next Tuesday’s November meeting.

Should it pass, Lawson and Mullen affirmed the next step would be a public hearing that’s been scheduled for 6 PM Thursday, November 20, and from there it’s up to commissioners to send their final suggestions and recommendations either back to the council for a permanent boundary change, or let the effort die on the floor.

Consternation has yet to be voiced about expanding the Cadiz taxing district, but this process nonetheless must allow for it.

Meanwhile, Mullen and Lawson said there has also been some progress in the strategic planning front, thanks to the efforts of legal counsel from Stephen Underwood and Hopkinsville’s Community Development Services Tom Britton.

It means the old strategic plan can be re-certified, while making more nuanced changes based on Trigg County’s needs.

Furthermore, Mullen said other strategic plans in the community can be referenced, in order to create a streamlined rubric.

Commissioner Chappell Wilson noted that it would behoove the body to present the new strategic plan during a public hearing, before presenting it to both the Cadiz City Council and the Trigg County Fiscal Court.

In other planning commission news:

+ Mullen said he recently received a call from a property owner in Cumberland Shores, who complained of a neighbor planting trees along their plat lines. Mullen said he looked up the lot lines and saw five-foot easement rules, and later received a call from said neighbor, citing restrictions in the subdivision “were 20-to-25 years old, and no longer valid.”

Commissioner John Oliphant and Wilson offered some thoughts on the matter.

+ With no quorum present, no actions were taken Tuesday night, but several remain on the table, including the possibility of acquiring a $30,000 CD for safe keeping, and the continued pursuit of internship opportunities with Murray State University and other institutions.
