A traffic stop for an issue with the license plate led to drug charges for a Mayfield man on Main Street in Cadiz Thursday night.

Trigg County Sheriff’s deputies say they stopped a vehicle driven by 47-year-old Vernon Evans for his license plate not being illuminated, and during the stop, they could smell the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle.

When asked if he had anything illegal in the vehicle, he reportedly said no but stated he had smoked marijuana earlier. Deputies say he gave consent to a search, and suspected meth was located in a cigarette pack.

Evans was arrested and charged with possession of meth.
