The pageantry of the marching arts was on full display this weekend at the Stadium of Champions in Hopkinsville during the Kentucky Music Educators Association’s 2A and 4A Regional Quarterfinals competitions.
A total of 23 bands took the field and gave it their all to make the top 6, which would advance to next weekend’s Semifinals. Due to pending rain, the schedule was moved up, with the 4A competition starting at 10 AM and the 2A at 3:30PM. The contest was full of emotion, exciting moments, and lasting memories, as Saturday marked the last time Hopkinsville High School and Christian County High School would march as separate schools in competition at the Stadium of Champions.
Christian County High School secured 1st place in the West Region with a score of 86.35, ahead of Daviess County in 2nd with 84.95. Hopkinsville High School finished strong in 3rd place with a score of 83.40. The other three bands advancing from the 4A competition to next weekend at Daviess County High School were Madisonville North Hopkins, Calloway County High School, and Grayson County High School.
The afternoon continued on with the 2A competition seeing Caldwell County High School finish in 3rd place with 76.8 and Trigg County finish in 5th place with a score of 75.95. Other bands joining them included Hancock County High School , Hart County High School, Glasgow High School, and McLean County High School. Class 2 A will compete next weekend at Hart County.
In the 2A Prelims at Hart County High School, Caldwell County will perform at 10:15 Am and Trigg County will perform at Noon. In 4A at Daviess County High School, Christian County will perform at 12:15 PM and Hopkinsville will perform at 2:30 PM. The Top 6 Bands out of each class will move on to State Finales, which will be held at Western Kentucky University.
