A contractor for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet will begin maintenance work next week along an eight-mile stretch of Interstate 24 in Christian County. The project will bring lane closures and reduced speed limits through the construction zone.
Starting Wednesday, October 1, crews will repair the bridge deck on the westbound lanes at the West Fork Red River Bridge near mile marker 91.4. Traffic will be reduced to one lane while repairs are underway.
Crews will also upgrade guardrails in both directions of I-24 between the Tennessee state line at mile marker 93 and the U.S. 41A interchange at mile marker 85. Mobile lane closures are expected during this phase of work.
The project is scheduled to be finished by late November, weather permitting.
Motorists are urged to watch for work crews, heed lane closures, and observe the 55 mph speed limit in effect where work is being performed. KYTC reminds drivers to slow down and use caution in work zones to protect both workers and travelers.
