Firefighters from Todd and Christian Counties battled a large field fire on Dixie Beeline Highway Saturday afternoon.

Trenton Fire Department Chief John Stahl says approximately 5 to 7 acres of standing corn were burned along with 10 to 15 acres of harvested corn and wooded area that were also burned. It took firefighters over two hours to extinguish the fire.

Stahl says the fire is believed to have started by a combine working in the area and would like to remind everyone of a county-wide burn ban due to low humidity, dry conditions, and wind leading to fires spreading rapidly.

No one was injured, and there was no property damaged.

Trenton firefighters were assisted by Elkton, Guthrie, Allensville, Fairview, and Pembroke fire departments, along with Todd County EMS, Todd County EMA, and Todd County Chaplains.

Trenton Fire Department would like to thank several area farmers who assisted on scene with tractors, discs, and additional water, including Simons Farms, Chester Farms, Cox Farms, Poindexter Farms, Brookshire Farms, Shackleford Farms, along with many others.
