Reading Of The Constitution Held At Christian County Justice Center

Each year, the Christian County judiciary, in partnership with the Knights of Columbus, hosts a public reading of the United States Constitution. It’s a moment to reflect on the country’s core principles — and this year, that reflection felt especially timely.

The event drew visiting judges from across the Commonwealth, including Kentucky Supreme Court Chief Justice Debra Lambert, who joined in reading the preamble.

Chief Justice Debra Lambert reads the preamble to the Constitution.

The tradition is both ceremonial and personal for those who serve the legal system every day — like Commonwealth Attorney Maureen Leamy.

For Leamy, the Constitution is more than just case law. It’s a reminder of why her family came to this country in the first place.

New Attorney Jonathan Garnett says the Constitution still underpins everything legal professionals do — even if they don’t see it every day.

Judge John Atkins closed the event with thanks, a lunch invitation for guests — and a playful nod to his Constitution-themed necktie.

With patriotic readings and a few laughs, the event honored not just the document itself — but the freedoms it protects.
