The Tennessee Valley Authority and Hopkinsville Electric System are asking customers to voluntarily reduce their electric load by turning off all unneeded lights, TVs, and postponing the use of electric appliances until further notice.
In a notice shared Tuesday morning, officials said small voluntary reductions by each of TVA’s millions of customers can have a huge impact on overall energy usage and help avoid stressing the electric generation and transmission grid, and maintain reliability.
TVA’s Scotty Sholar said that reducing electric usage in the morning and evening hours can be a huge help.
Sholar offered some other tips to keep in mind when trying to conserve energy.
TVA offers additional energy-saving tips here.
