A traffic stop on North Main Street in Hopkinsville led to drug charges for a Hopkinsville man Saturday night.

Christian County Sheriff’s deputies say they stopped a vehicle driven by 46-year-old Vernan Mathis for his license plate not being illuminated and obstructed.

During the stop, he was reportedly found to have a suspended license and gave law enforcement a false name. Deputies say meth was found inside a container on his keychain.

He was arrested and charged with possession of meth second offense, operating on suspended or revoked operators license, giving officer false identifying information, rear license not illuminated, and rim or frame obscuring lettering or decal on plate.

Mathis was also found to have active warrants for failure to appear and contempt of court.
