James “Jim” E. Mason, 89, Circle Drive, Hopkinsville, KY, passed away Friday, June 20, 2025 at Jennie Stuart Medical Center.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, June 26, 2025 at First United Methodist Church with Dr. Dan Huck officiating. Lamb Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.
Visitation will be from noon until the service hour on Thursday, June 26, 2025 at the church.
A native of Bridgeport, AL, he was born April 2, 1936, the son of the late Charles Russell Mason and the late Vivah Lucille (Helton) Mason.
Jim was a member of First United Methodist Church since 1978. He served on the boards of Clarksville Credit Bureau and Clarksville Golf and Country Club. He was manager for Jim Ayer’s Volkswagen, Clarksville, TN for 17 years. He was also president and general manager of Mason Pontiac Cadillac, Hopkinsville, KY. Jim was employed 43 years as an agent for New York Life.
He was well known locally as a professional woodturner. He created thousands of art pieces, including salad bowls and vases, which can be found in the homes of people in many states, countries, and hundreds in Hopkinsville, KY.
He has a 50 year plus collection of religious and inspirational poems and articles that he enjoyed sharing with others. Jim was a novice poet and had written poems inspired by his life, work, hobbies, and family events. He wrote a book for his immediate family titled Life in My Daze.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Wanda Joyce Mason Willis.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Virginia Faye Mason, Hopkinsville, KY; his son, Russell Paul Mason, Mt. Juliet, TN; his daughters, Melanie Faye (Denzil) Mason Long, Austin, TX, Martha “Marti” (Mike) Surrey, Ft. Thomas, KY; his brothers, Charles Ross (Anna) Mason, Lebanon, TN, Hugh Nelson (Sonja) Mason, Mt. Juliet, TN; and his grandchildren, Remi Long, Riley Long, Anna Lucy Surrey, and Nate Surrey.
