In accordance with a proclamation from the White House, Governor Andy Beshear has ordered that flags at all state office buildings be lowered to half-staff on Thursday in observance of Peace Officers Memorial Day.
On October 1, 1962, Congress approved a joint resolution designating May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the calendar week in which it falls as Police Week. This observance honors local, state, and federal peace officers who have died or been disabled in the line of duty.
In a written statement, Governor Andy Beshear emphasized that Kentucky’s law enforcement officers deserve daily gratitude, and those who have made the sacrifice should be honored and remembered every day. He encouraged Kentuckians to take extra time this week to show appreciation for those who protect and serve our communities.
Gov. Beshear encourages individuals, businesses, and organizations throughout the Commonwealth to participate in this tribute.
