Multi-County Pursuit Suspect Expected to Enter Plea

An Indiana man charged with multiple felonies in a three-county police pursuit earlier this year is expected to enter a guilty plea in Christian County Circuit Court next week.

31-year-old Cody Alire appeared in court Wednesday with his attorney Eric Bearden, who told Judge Andrew Self that a resolution could be completed within a week.

click to download audioMcLean County Sheriff’s deputies attempted to stop Alire on May 24 when they determined he was wanted in Evansville. Police said Alire fired shots at deputies in McLean County, drove into Muhlenberg County, and then Christian County where he was arrested after striking a utility pole on East 7th Street in Hopkinsville.

Police said one person was injured when Alire ran their vehicle off the road on Greenville Road.

In Christian County, Alire was charged with 15 counts of first-degree wanton endangerment, two counts of attempted murder of a police officer, two counts of first-degree assault, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, two counts of felony theft, two counts of fleeing and evading, and two counts of being a fugitive from another state.

Alire is scheduled to enter his plea on September 6.
