Somehow amid all of the wintry weather going on this week, officials with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet were able to turn their attention on a major need for Trigg Countians.
There on Cardinal Drive and connecting to the campus of Trigg County Schools, a new pedestrian crossing flasher has been installed — bringing about improved safety for students and faculty who frequently use this crosswalk to get to and from the campus.
The solar-powered flasher does include an activation feature for yellow strobe lights, which will alert approaching motorists that a pedestrian is entering the crosswalk.
Keith Todd, spokesman for KYTC District 1, said this measure was something that’s long been in the works.
Located at the U.S. 68-Business Mile-Point 2.899, KYTC data indicates that nearly 7,300 vehicles travel past this crossing on an average day.
This new pedestrian crossing alert system was installed and activated on Wednesday.
