Christian County Superintendent Bentzel Delivers Breakfast Primer

Per Superintendent Chris Bentzel, a comprehensive public update on the inevitable Hopkinsville-Christian County consolidation is planned for the upcoming “State of the Schools” Eye-Opener Breakfast.

During an appearance earlier this week on WHVO’s “Hoptown This Morning,” Bentzel did note that district officials are within a month from receiving key details from construction designs being complete.

Bentzel added that these plans will include cost-saving measures and other modes of going out to bid, different and perhaps more effective from the prior experience.

What happened last July, Bentzel said, when bids returned much higher than expected — was a mistake.

A firm timeline and the hopes of being out to bid in the next three-to-four months, Bentzel said, will also be further discussed at the breakfast.

However, Bentzel issued that the consolidation of Christian County and Hopkinsville high schools is more than just the creation of a new, comprehensive building for all to share.

It’s about the transformation of education opportunities for local youths.

The “State of the Schools” Eye-Opener Breakfast is slated for 7:30-9 AM Tuesday, January 31 at the Bruce Convention Center in Hopkinsville. It’s $15 a person or $135 a table, and tickets can be purchased through the Christian County Chamber of Commerce or the Christian County Public Schools home office.

Furthermore, Bentzel said the district is well on track for having a strongly-attended month of January, which is not as common as one would think. Between a natural disaster, COVID-19, flu and winter weather, the last few Januaries have been difficult for the district’s population.

CCPS does get to observe 10 NTI days on its calendar and one true snow day, as Bentzel pointed out that two snow days were added at the front end of Thanksgiving for a longer holiday.

This week’s small potential for a winter mix did keep officials glued to National Weather Service reports.

The CCPS District Office is located at 200 Glass Avenue, and it can be reached by phone at (270) 887-7000.
