
The Christian County Grand Jury returned several indictments Friday including for assault, wanton endangerment and robbery.

33-year old Demario Artez White, of Hopkinsville, was indicted on charges for first-degree assault, second-degree assault, possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, first-degree wanton endangerment, and tampering with physical evidence.
White is accused of shooting at an apartment complex on East 18th Street at the intersection of Jones Street on November 24 that injured a man and woman. Police reported the man was shot in the leg and flown to Skyline Medical Center in Nashville. The woman was reportedly grazed by a bullet.

Carloss Potter/Christian County Jail mugshotTwo true bills were returned on separate assault-related charges for 54-year old Carloss Dewayne Potter of Hopkinsville. The grand jury found enough evidence to formally charge Potter with first-degree assault after police reported he was intoxicated and hit a woman in the head with an unknown object possibly a hammer at a home on Howell Street on October 2, 2021.
The second true bill charges Potter with two counts of first-degree attempted assault during an incident on March 26, 2021, where the indictment states he “created a grave risk of death or physical injury” to two individuals “by use of a deadly weapon or dangerous instrument.”

The grand jury indicted 20-year old John Obbie Vause, of Hopkinsville, with five counts of first-degree wanton endangerment and tampering with physical evidence. Vause is accused of threatening to kill a woman on November 13, 2021. Police said he then fired shots at a vehicle with the woman, another adult, and three children inside. There were no injuries or property damage found by police. Police said they located Vause attempting to hide at a home on North Elm Street.

The grand jury indicted 29-year old Dyllan Craig Pendleton, of Hopkinsville, on second-degree burglary, two counts of third-degree assault of a police officer, and resisting arrest. The indictment alleges Pendleton unlawfully entered a home on Anthony Drive with the intent to commit a crime. When he was being taken into custody by law enforcement, he reportedly resisted arrest and struck two officers causing physical injury.

A true bill was returned for 27-year old Shakeia Nesha Merritt, of Louisville, on a charge of first-degree robbery. Merritt is accused of physically threatening an individual during a theft on November 7, 2021, while armed with a dangerous instrument.
