Sinkhole, High Water Restricts Access to Caledonia Road

A sinkhole on Kentucky 272 near the intersection of Cliffwood Drive has closed the road until repairs can be made.

Keith Todd, the spokesman for District 1 of the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, said a resident reported a bump developing in the roadway about a mile and a half east of the South Road. Todd said the bump developed into a sinkhole Monday morning. Barricades have been placed on Caledonia Road at both intersections with Cliffwood Drive. The sinkhole is about six feet across and 4 to 5 feet deep.

Todd said the road will remain closed until engineers can determine exactly how deep the sinkhole is and develop a repair plan.

The sinkhole further restricts travel to Caledonia Road after high water has closed Glenwood Mill Road, the main connector road between U.S. 68 and Kentucky 272. Emergency vehicles, first responders, and residents of Caledonia Road wishing to access that area from the west will have to take a detour on King’s Chapel Road, South Montgomery Road, or from 272 east from Christian County.

Water remains over the road on Glenwood Mill Road after two inches of rain fell over the weekend in Trigg County. The road will remain closed until the water recedes.
