A traffic stop on West Edmunds Street led to several charges for a Hopkinsville man Friday night.
Hopkinsville Police say 24-year-old Tavarious Mathews was stopped after he was seen failing to use his turn signal. During the stop, police were reportedly able to smell marijuana and after a search bags of marijuana were found on him and in his vehicle along with a 9mm handgun and a digital scale.
Police say Mathews was arrested and before going into the jail was told he would be charged with promoting contraband if he still had drugs on him after entering the jail.
He was reportedly found to have more marijuana on him after a search at the jail. He is charged with first-degree promoting contraband and trafficking marijuana.
