The first-ever Songs from the Heart benefit hosted by The Edge Media Group is being deemed a success.

The event raised over $1,000 for the American Heart Association and brought over 30 people to see country singer/songwriter CJ Solar Friday night.

Edge Media Group Operations Manager Bill Booth says raising money for the organization is very important.

During the show’s intermission, Assistant Program Director Kimberly Allen shared the story of Brittney Newcomb, a resident of Hopkinsville, who has gone through heart disease since she was born. Allen notes the money raised locally stays in the state of Kentucky to help fund research to help people like Newcomb.

Solar says the show meant a lot to him, as he has family members who have battled heart disease.

As a songwriter, Solar scored a huge number-one single in 2018 with “Up Down” recorded by Morgan Wallen and Florida Georgia Line. In addition, he’s released a number of singles that receive regular airplay on WKDZ and says 2020 will be a busy year for him.

The 2020 Christian County Heart Walk will take place Saturday morning, April 18 at the Western Kentucky State Fairgrounds.
