Illness Forces Stewart County Schools To Close

Stewart County Schools will be closed the remainder of the week due to illness.

Director of Schools Mike Craig tells the News Edge they made the decision after consulting with medical professionals.

He adds the school district’s absenteeism was not unreasonably high but it was trending that way with a number of students leaving school sick Wednesday morning.

He says custodial staff will be deep-cleaning all schools while they are closed Thursday and Friday.

While schools are closed, Craig asks parents to take precautionary measures.

In addition, he says all extra-curricular activities are canceled at all the schools until classes resume on Monday.

This is the second school district in the area to close schools due to illness. Todd County Schools were closed last Thursday and Friday, January 23rd and 24th, due a variety of illnesses.
